International Community’s Inaction is Unacceptable – Ombudsman of Artsakh

Artsakh Ombudsman Geham Stepanyan sent a letter to the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe, the Director General of UNICEF and other international organizations and entities involved in the protection of human rights on the occasion of the International Day of Education. This was reported by the press service of the HRC of the republic.

He touched upon the humanitarian crisis resulting from the blockade of Artsakh by Azerbaijan, deliberate violations of the important infrastructures of Artsakh, as well as the violation of the fundamental rights to education of children and other rights as a result.

The Ombudsman noted that the inaction of the international community, which leads to a gross violation of education and other fundamental rights of tens of thousands of Artsakh children, is unacceptable. He called on the listed organizations and actors to move from appeals and condemnations to specific targeted steps and remain committed to the principles established by the 1989 UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
