Armenia’s Economy Cannot Grow in the Face of Security Uncertainties

YEREVAN, ARMENIA – Economist Suren Parsyan, Director of the ARF Bureau’s Economic Research Office, spoke with Panorama.am about the rising inflation in Armenia and the government’s social policy.

“It is no coincidence that according to UN studies, the number of malnourished people in Armenia has increased by about 80 thousand in recent months and will increase even more, because our state social policy is not able to mitigate these inflationary situations. Several social programs for pensioners and beneficiaries announced by the government are not sufficient and targeted, and most of the vulnerable groups cannot use them.

“Therefore, when the government announces that it plans to review pensions and benefits in January 2023, you must understand that the living standards of our people will continue to deteriorate this year, with the hope that some of the deterioration will be mitigated in January of next year, but the following year will bring new problems, financial risks and we need to understand how we will mitigate or solve the risks of next year”, said Parsyan.
