LOS ANGELES, CA – The annual demonstration attended by the Armenian community of Southern California as well as their allies is taking place again to commemorate victims of the Armenian Genocide and raise awareness for the ongoing onslaught of ethnic cleansing and violence against Armenians today. This cornerstone event, regularly attended by tens of thousands of Armenian Americans and supporters of human rights from all backgrounds, will place a special focus on the crimes against humanity being perpetrated against Armenians today by Azerbaijan and Turkey.

Community leaders, activists, elected officials, and renowned artists will be present at the event, calling for an end to the suffering of Armenians in Artsakh by the genocidal regime of Ilham Aliyev in Azerbaijan. Following over 110 days of all food, transportation, and humanitarian assistance being denied to the Armenians of Artsakh, the over 120,000 Armenians are at direct risk of starvation, displacement, and massacre.

The Rally for Humanity, organized by the Armenian Youth Federation Western United States, will be among numerous events taking place across the United States to commemorate the Armenian Genocide. Participants from all over the region will be coming together at 12:00 PM on Monday, April 24, 2023, in front of the Turkish Consulate of Los Angeles (located at 8500 Wilshire Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA) to voice their protest against the genocidal policies of Azerbaijan supported by Turkey, commemorate the more than 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide, and demand that their elected representatives ensure that the status of Armenians in Artsakh is recognized.

WHERE:

8500 Wilshire Blvd Suite 900 Beverly Hills CA 90211

WHAT:

The Armenian Youth Federation Western United States (AYF-WUS) is hosting an annual commemorative event for the Armenian Genocide, known as the Rally for Humanity, to protest the past Armenian Genocide perpetrated by Ottoman Turkey and the modern genocide being perpetrated by Azerbaijan through developments that have led to the complete blockading of the Berdzor (Lachin) Corridor. The blockade of the Berdzor Corridor has left 120,000 Armenian civilians deprived of food, medical access, gas, and access to their indigenous lands and homes for more than 130 consecutive days. The AYF-WUS, the largest and most influential Armenian-American youth organization, calls on the Greater Los Angeles community to protest against Azerbaijani terrorism that is currently inciting a humanitarian crisis in Artsakh. The direct impacts of a deliberate blockade at this scale all indicate Genocide being committed against Armenians, as Azerbaijan continues to commit war crimes that break international law.

WHY:

The Berdzor Corridor blockade is a time-sensitive, pressing humanitarian issue and a part of a chain of terrorism against indigenous Armenians that has been enabled by the unpunished crime of the Armenian Genocide of 1915. The blockade, along with the cutting off of gas and heat, has put the lives of 120,000 indigenous Armenians — 3,000 of which are children — at stake. The AYF-WUS refuses to stay silent in the face of current Azerbaijani terrorism, as well as unpunished and unrecognized crimes that were committed against Armenians in the first Genocide of the 20th century. Now is the time to mobilize in condemning both Turkey and Azerbaijan and demanding U.S. government intervention in ceasing the blockade of the Berdzor Corridor.
