TUMO Los Angeles Opens in North Hollywood, Bringing Free Tech & Design Education to Local Teens

North Hollywood, CA — A long-awaited milestone was reached this week with the official opening of the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies Los Angeles, the first of its kind in the United States. Located at 4146 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood, the center offers free, cutting-edge educational programs in technology and design for teens ages 12 to 18.

In advance of the launch, TUMO LA hosted a series of family information and open house sessions, including this past weekend, to introduce parents and students to the program’s unique model and enrollment process. Families toured the facility and learned how students will be able to chart personalized paths through disciplines such as animation, filmmaking, music, programming, robotics, game development, 3D modeling, and graphic design.

Leadership and Vision

The realization of TUMO Los Angeles is the direct result of years of advocacy and funding leadership.

  • Adrin Nazarian, now serving as Los Angeles City Councilmember for the district, secured $23.25 million in State of California funding during his tenure as a State Assemblymember, laying the financial foundation for the project.
  • Paul Krekorian, then Los Angeles City Council President, advanced the effort by delivering $3 million in Community Development Block Grant funds at the city level and championing the project locally until he was termed out of office.

Together, their work ensured that Los Angeles would become home to the first TUMO Center on American soil.

What TUMO Offers

TUMO’s globally acclaimed model combines self-directed digital learning with hands-on workshops led by professionals, allowing students to advance from fundamentals to specialized skills. Enrollment is completely free, with an initial cohort of about 600 students expected to grow to 1,500 as capacity expands.

North Hollywood, a hub of the creative economy, was chosen as the ideal location—linking students with both the entertainment industry and the city’s thriving technology sector.

Community Reaction

Local community leaders hailed the opening as a breakthrough for Los Angeles youth.

“TUMO’s arrival in Los Angeles is a game-changer for our kids and our community. As a parent and as someone who’s worked for years to expand youth opportunities in North Hollywood, I’m thrilled to see a world-class, free program that lets teens build real skills—from coding and robotics to film and design—right here at home.” — Levon Baronian, community leader and parent
