The Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia Rejects All Attempts to Recognize Artsakh as Part of Azerbaijan

The Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia supports the position of the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh, rejecting all kinds of attempts to recognize Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.

The Pontifical Holy See of the Great House of Cilicia, with worldwide dioceses, national authorities and related structures and associations, expresses its full support to the statement of the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh, rejecting any approach and effort to recognize the Republic of Artsakh as part of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and in this context, especially by the Republic of Armenia, its Prime Minister and government.

Indeed, on December 10, 1991, Artsakh has already expressed its collective will for sovereignty through a popular vote, and then the Supreme Council of the Republic of Armenia on July 8, 1992 re-emphasized the sovereignty of Artsakh.

According to international law, a nation has the right to self-determination. Therefore, the just right of self-determination of the people of Artsakh cannot become a victim of the attempts to establish a comprehensive peace within the region and to recognize the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

It is necessary to be awake, far-sighted and especially unified. Making Artsakh a part of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan will not only endanger the security of the people of Artsakh, but also the sovereignty and security of Armenia.

At this fateful moment in our history, we appeal to the children of our people to unite and support Artsakh.
