Greg Krikorian Returns to Glendale Unified School District Board of Education

PRESS RELEASE, GLENDALE, California

Gregory S. Krikorian has returned to the Glendale Unified School District Board of Education following one of the closest school board elections in California. After 24 days of ballot counting, the election ended in a remarkable 17-vote victory, highlighting the importance of every vote and the power of community engagement. During the official canvass, the race was tied at 4,557 votes each before the final ballots were counted, with the results certified on June 26, 2026 Greg Krikorian Returns to Glendale Unified School District Board of Education

Krikorian first made history in 2001 as the first Armenian American elected to the Glendale Unified Board of Education. During his 22 years of service, he worked alongside educators, parents, administrators, and community leaders to expand educational opportunities, strengthen fiscal responsibility, and promote student achievement.

A second-generation Armenian American, Krikorian’s family story reflects the resilience of immigrants who came to America seeking opportunity after surviving the Armenian Genocide. Public service and education have remained central to his family’s values. His wife, Christine, is a substitute teacher in the Burbank Unified School District. His sister, Tamara, is a first-grade teacher at Miller Elementary School, and his daughter, Seran Papaian, teaches mathematics at Toll Middle School.

After stepping away from elected office following more than two decades of service, Krikorian said the encouragement of former superintendents, principals, teachers, parents, and community leaders inspired him to seek another term.

“I am honored by the trust the voters have placed in me,” said Krikorian. “This victory belongs to the volunteers, parents, teachers, neighbors, and supporters who believed in our shared vision for Glendale Unified. I look forward to working collaboratively to ensure every student receives an exceptional education in safe, innovative, and inclusive schools.”

Today, Krikorian serves as the only Armenian American member of the Glendale Unified School District Board of Education. While proud to represent one of the nation’s largest Armenian American communities, he emphasizes that his commitment is to serve every student, every family, every employee, and every neighborhood throughout Glendale Unified.

Krikorian and his wife of more than 36 years are the proud parents of five children and grandparents of four. He returns to the Board committed to integrity, transparency, fiscal stewardship, and educational excellence for all Glendale Unified students.
