Crescenta Valley Armenian Community Commemorates Armenian Genocide

CRESCENTA VALLEY, CA – On the evening of Friday, April 22, the greater Armenian community came together at the Armenian Genocide Monument of Crescenta Valley to commemorate the 107th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The event was sponsored by the the Crescenta Valley Armenian Apostolic Church and its Board of Trustees.

Participating in the joint event were the organizations that operate out of the Crescenta Valley Meher and Satig Der Ohanessian Youth Center–the Armenian Revolutionary Federation “Zavarian” Gomideh, Armenian Youth Federation “Zartonk” Chapter, Armenian Relief Society “Talin” Chapter, Homenetmen “Shant” Chapter, and the ANCA Crescenta Valley Chapter.

Dr. Alice Chalian of the Crescenta Valley Meher and Satig Der Ohannesian Youth Center was the mistress of ceremonies for the evening. She introduced the scouts of the Homenetmen “Shant” Chapter, who presented the flags of the United States, Armenia, Artsakh, California, A.R.F. and Homenetmen.

Suzy Mazmanian of the Crescenta Valley Armenian Apostolic Church choir performed the national anthems of the United States and Armenia, accompanied by Allen Dishigrikian on the organ. The church’s Pastor Ghevond Kirazian made remarks and offered prayers in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

Also speaking at the event was Harry Leon, Crescenta Valley Town Council President, who presented a proclamation from the Town Council in commemoration of the Armenian Genocide.

The participants laid flowers at the foot of the monument and closed the evening with the singing of the Lord’s Prayer in Armenian.
