Burbank, CA – On Tuesday, April 12, 2022, the City of Burbank issued a Proclamation designating April 24, 2022 as Burbank’s Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day of 1915-1923. The proclamation was adopted during the city’s virtual board meeting and was read aloud by Mayor Jess Talamantes.

The Proclamation was presented to ANCA Burbank and was accepted by Mr. Sarkis Simonian, Chairman of ANCA Burbank.

“Some might argue, why keep issuing the same Proclamation year after year? To those I say, unless we bring those atrocities into light and remind the world of the devastation and loss of life, history will repeat itself! For Armenians, the Genocide never ended and continues to this date as evidenced by the war in Artsakh in 2020 and the ethnic cleansing that followed, and still follows until this day as Azerbaijan keeps forcing Armenians away from their homes and villages in Artsakh” stated Sarkis Simonian, ANCA Burbank Chair.

Mayor Talamantes also announced that the city will light Burbank City Hall walls with the colors of the Armenian Flag on April 23rd and the 24th.

ANCA Burbank expresses its appreciation to the City of Burbank, Mayor Talamantes and the entire council for their continued commitment to the Armenian Genocide cause and their courage and commitment to advancing social and economic justice in general, especially in these difficult times.

The Armenian National Committee of America–Burbank advances the social, economic, cultural, and political rights of the area’s Armenian community and promotes its increased civic participation at the grassroots and public policy levels.
