ANCA San Fernando Valley – East Endorses Adrin Nazarian for Los Angeles City Council District 2

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA – The Armenian National Committee of America’s (ANCA) San Fernando Valley – East chapter has endorsed former California State Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian for Los Angeles City Council District 2.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement from the ANCA San Fernando Valley, East Chapter,” remarked Adrin Nazarian in a statement to the ANCA. “Armenian activism is very personal and important to me, and having an organization like ANCA’s vote of confidence is humbling. I look forward to representing part of the vibrant and growing Armenian diaspora in Los Angeles when I’m elected to City Council, and I’m thankful to the San Fernando East Valley chapter for their kind words and faith in me.”

Nazarian was first elected to the California Assembly in 2012, representing the 46th district which includes densely Armenian-populated neighborhoods in the San Fernando Valley, including Van Nuys, North Hollywood, and Sherman Oaks. During his time in the state legislature, Nazarian played a vital role in advancing the core priorities of the Armenian-American community, including California’s recognition of the Republic of Artsakh, the divestment of state funds from Turkish government-backed securities, and the establishment of Armenian Genocide Commemoration Day as a state holiday. Prior to being elected to the state legislature, Nazarian served as chief of staff to Paul Krekorian during both his tenure as Assistant Majority Leader in the California State Assembly and as a member of the Los Angeles City Council.

“Adrin Nazarian has been a powerful advocate for the Armenian-American community of the San Fernando Valley and across California throughout his tenure in the State Assembly, standing up for our community’s interests and priorities,” remarked ANCA San Fernando Valley – East co-chair Avo Babian. “The ANCA is proud to endorse Adrin Nazarian for Los Angeles City Council, and we look forward to continuing to work with him to empower the Armenian-American community’s voice at city hall – from supporting local community organizations and initiatives to ensuring the city’s ongoing support for the fundamental rights of the Armenian worldwide, particularly in the wake of Azerbaijan’s ethnic cleansing of Artsakh.”

During his time in the California State Assembly, Nazarian also secured funding and state resources for community organizations and projects, including Homenetmen Hrashq, the Armenian Bar Association, the Armenian American Museum, TUMO Los Angeles, Camp Arev, and the AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School.

“The Armenian-American community is an integral part of the cultural, economic, social and political fabric of the State of California and the City of Los Angeles,” remarked ANCA National Board Member Aida Dimejian. “Ensuring the Armenian-American community’s voice continues to be represented at Los Angeles City Council is imperative, and there is no candidate more qualified than Adrin Nazarian to fight for our community at city hall.

Council District 2 is currently represented by Los Angeles City Council President Paul Krekorian, who will not be eligible for reelection due to term limits. District 2 stretches from the hills of Studio City to the edge of Verdugo Mountains Park in Sun Valley. It includes North Hollywood, Studio City, Sun Valley, Valley Village, Van Nuys, and Valley Glen – one of the fastest-growing Armenian-American communities in the country.

Primary elections for the Los Angeles City Council race will be held on March 5th, 2024 and the general election will take place on November 9th, 2024. If you are not registered to vote, you can do so at the following link: https://registertovote.ca.gov/
