GLENDALE, CA – The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) and the ANCA Glendale Chapter organized a meeting between Glendale Mayor Ardashes “Ardy” Kassakhian and member of Armenia’s parliament Arthur Khachatryan.
MP Khachatryan and the ANCA congratulated Mayor Kassakhian on becoming Mayor of the City of Glendale and the exceptional leadership he has demonstrated in the community over the years. MP Khachatryan, who is on a working visit to California, briefed Mayor Kassakhian on the difficult situation in Armenia and Artsakh and the leadership that is needed to ensure the security of the Armenian people. Having recently visited Artsakh, MP Khachatryan provided first-hand information about Azerbaijan’s threat of ethnic cleansing toward the Armenians of Artsakh and Azerbaijan’s continuous violations of Armenia’s sovereignty.
ANCA national board member Zanku Armenian and ANCA Glendale Chapter board member Vache Thomassian stressed the importance of expanding cooperation between the U.S. and Armenia/Artsakh on a local City of Glendale and California state level leveraging the strong bonds between the large Armenian American community and Armenia and Artsakh.
“As the mayor of the city with the largest Armenian population in the U.S., it was great to reconnect with MP Kachatryan who has great knowledge and experience in fostering ties between Armenia and California both from his current role in the parliament and his previous experience as executive director of the California-Armenia Trade Office,” said Mayor Kassakhian, adding “we look forward to finding new ways of cooperating with Armenia, developing the economy, and strengthening these ties between Glendale and Armenia and Artsakh.”
