We Must Awaken, Rediscover Ourselves and Change – Archbishop Pargev Martirosyan

“The Armenian people were united, and this helped them to win”, said Archbishop Pargev Martirosyan, former head of the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, in an interview with AlphaNews on the occasion of May 9th, the former tri-holiday, on which Armenians used to also celebrate the liberation of Shushi during the first Artsakh war in 1992.

“This was our modern day victory, which we will always remember (in reference to the first Artsakh war). This was the greatest heroism of our people. Armenians are God’s warriors. Our people were united, and this helped us to win. We were a single thought, a single will, we lived with common tasks, goals and boundless faith in victory, because it was a matter of our existence,” Martirosyan said.

He explained why society is currently in a depressed state.

“The problem is that today our people are divided into old and new, black and white. Now our Motherland and people seem to have no purpose. Armenians must set goals and tasks for themselves and follow the path of their solution. We cannot live like this, we must wake up, rediscover ourselves and change.

“We need to combine all our efforts, I believe in the Armenian gene, our gene is very powerful, and we still have to celebrate great successes.

“It all depends on us, we were in such difficult situations, we surrendered Shushi, Martakert. Artsakh was surrounded, but we broke this ring and gradually came to a great victory. We must encourage and support each other. There is nothing difficult in this, we need to rise to our feet and continue to move forward, ”concluded the Archbishop.
