No Power Has Ever Secured Peace by Ceding to Aggressor’s Every Demand – Ishkhan Saghatelyan

Any country interested in building mutual trust between Armenia and Azerbaijan and establishing real peace in our region should direct its efforts towards the release of all prisoners held in Baku, the withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from the territory of Armenia, and ensuring the right of return of forcibly displaced Artsakh Armenians.

Armenia has already made quite painful and “brave” unilateral concessions, but these concessions not only did not stabilize the region, but also further whetted Azerbaijan’s appetite, opening the door to a new war.

Until even humanitarian issues are resolved, talks about peace are a mockery of the Armenian people.

Of course, you can sign various memoranda of understanding about peace, you can make dozens of statements, but none of them will bring peace to the region.

Throughout history, no power has ever succeeded in achieving peace by satisfying all of the aggressor’s demands. Such political incompetence has ultimately led to disaster for all.

Before that, let me once again note that all the agreements reached during this time are taking place behind the backs of the people and exclusively with one person.

No influential political force in Armenia, no individual or structure with serious authority supports these agreements and the political course adopted by the current regime.

In order to implement the agreements reached, the regime is forced to expand the wave of repressions each time, increasing the number of political prisoners in the country.

Therefore, those external forces whose hope is in Pashinyan’s endless concession tactics should know well that it is not possible to contain the wave of public discontent in the long term through endless repressions.
