Pashinyan’s Partner Anna Hakobian Lashes Out at Critics with Insults, Sparking Outrage

After months of promoting her “Getting Educated Is Fashionable” campaign, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s wife, Anna Hakobian, stunned Armenians this week with a series of vulgar social media posts targeting her critics.

Using terms like “donkey,” “idiot,” and “louse,” Hakobian insulted opposition activists and ordinary citizens who questioned her motives or criticized her activities. One Karabakh-born activist was labeled a “louse,” while another citizen was dismissed as a “brainless” villager.

Hakobian justified her rhetoric, saying, “As long as this proposal is ridiculed and attacked, my response will be adequate.” In response to a columnist who asked whether critics are “fools” or “morons,” she replied: “Both.”

Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan defended her remarks, saying people are free to respond however they want—despite his own history of spitting on a heckler.

Opposition MP Lilit Galstian condemned Hakobian’s language, saying it revealed the “true nature” of the ruling couple.

The controversy comes just weeks after Pashinyan himself exploded on the parliament floor, insulting and threatening opposition lawmakers who accused him of turning a blind eye to corruption.

Hakobian, a former journalist, has maintained a prominent public role during her husband’s rule. Her charity has also faced scrutiny over its financial transparency—allegations she angrily denied in a recent post.
